Over the last two weeks Glenn has really been changing. Mostly, he is picking up/speaking new words now. The latest are:
Ham, ball, and No. What is really impressive is his growing understanding of abstractions. If he sees a picture of a furry animal, he will hold it up to his face to feel the ‘fur’. If he sees a baby in a book, he will imitate what pose the baby is in. If he sees a truck or car in a book, he will make is vroom car sound. He is imitating everything we do now, especially house work. He even likes wearing a watch like Daddy! I let him wear my cheap Timex and he kept it on for over an hour! I can tell he wants to wear some of my more interesting looking watches but mechanical watches+21 month old=not good. They are tough, but not designed to be worn by toddlers who tend to throw things.
In other news, we are trying out Netflix. I don’t know why we didn’t years ago. It is nice to actually see movies we want to see, not the movies the video store just happen to have. The play it now feature is pretty cool too, only thing that sucks it that is only works in windows. I think they use that Microsoft silverlight (their clone of Flash) for playing movies.
from his cold, dead, hands. Charlton Heston died today. Without him, we would never of know how apes learned to talk and controlled the Earth or the book of exodus.
Just updated my blogs to WordPress 2.5. The interface I use looks nice (you all can’t see it, it is the part I see when I create posts), a little slower, but seems easier to use. A lot of the menus have been reorganized into a more logical layout.
This is a test to see if you can embed videos properly now.
Looks like you can.
Overall a real improvement, so far. The last dozen or so updates have been for security.
I don’t know about you, but I am really sick of this winter that will not end. It is below freezing, it snowed yesterday, and it looks like there is no end in site. I just hope this weather does not continue far into April. I really want to go on a walk with the Glenn Monster. We have had about 3 nice days in the last 5 months.
In other news, Glenn got an early birthday gift from Mommy. He loves it. To find out what it is, you have to come over and visit.
Today we ‘celebrate’ the fifth anniversary of our invasion and illegal occupation of Iraq. A invasion based on lies , half truths, and deceptions. It has cost our country and the Iraqis dearly. Over 4,000 U.S. soldiers dead, over 30,000 injured. Certainly over 100,000 Iraqis have been killed. I hate calling them Iraqis. They are human beings. Most of them guilty of one crime, being in the wrong place at the wrong time. In terms of money, we are already over the half TRILLION mark in direct costs. In indirect costs, I am sure it is pushing a trillion. I have to ask myself, what was it for?
It was not for making us safer, if anything, we are less safe now.
It was not for oil, we will be paying over $4 a gallon before the year is over.
It was not to make life for Iraqis better. I am sure their standard of living now is far lower than it was before the war.
The Iraqi people were living under a dictatorship. What do you think the Chinese live under? I could name dozens of countries which have oppressive governments. We didn’t do anything about them.
Was this just a personal war to justify the neo-conservatives agenda? That is the only conclusion I can think of. If we really did want to protect our country, we would of finished the job in Afghanistan and taken care of Osama Bin Laden, who is probably still alive and well after SEVEN YEARS.
That is enough ranting for now. This ‘war’ is now the second longest war in U.S. history, after Vietnam. Mission Accomplished.
