Dust, the silent killer.

March 31

I thought some major component of my computer died.  Opened the case up, and the CPU’s heat sink was completely clogged with dust.  If you ever want to clean out a computer, I recommend using the hose attachment of your vacuum cleaner, with the brush attachment, if you have one.  The compressed air in a can just blows the dust all around your house.  A vacuum actually removes the dust.  If you have animals in the house, the problem is even worse.  Rabbit hair is very light and gets easily sucked into the computer.  If you must use compressed air,  you can use ‘shop air’ at 100PSI that is often used to power air powered tool.  Just don’t go ape sh*t and blow off some of the capacitors.

After cleaning of the heat sink, the computer is running good as new.  Just a few hours away from getting away.  It should be fun, and I would love one complete night of sleep.
