Geriatric Idol

I usually watch American Idol, this season is especially boring. One thing that does strike me as odd is just how freaking old the songs they sing are!

For the songs I could find the years for last night:

Don’t Get Around Much Anymore 1942 – 65 years old.

Mack The Knife 1928 – 79 years old.(!)

Stormy Weather 1933 – 74 years old.

I Got Rhythm 1930 – 77 years old.

Night and Day 1932 – 75 years old.

Smile 1936 – 71 years old.

Cheek to Cheek 1935 -72 years old.

That makes the average age of the songs sung last night 73.28 years old!

These are songs your GREAT and GREAT GREAT grandparents listened to. I know some songs are timeless, but, come on. Sing something just a little more current. 2 weeks ago was no help, with the British Invasion songs. Most were 40 years old or so.
I am about an episode away from not watching anymore, because I just don’t care anymore.

Geneva

Went to Geneva, IL yesterday and came back this afternoon. It was our first night away from Glenn.
The hotel was nice. If you ever want to see the cleanest hotel room, go to Country Inns by Carlton. Never seen a more spotless room.

Took some photos of the Fox river while we were there and of a windmill there too. When we re-visit, I think we will try a picnic at the windmill.

It was pretty relaxing, Glenn was not too bad when we were gone.

Dust, the silent killer.

I thought some major component of my computer died.  Opened the case up, and the CPU’s heat sink was completely clogged with dust.  If you ever want to clean out a computer, I recommend using the hose attachment of your vacuum cleaner, with the brush attachment, if you have one.  The compressed air in a can just blows the dust all around your house.  A vacuum actually removes the dust.  If you have animals in the house, the problem is even worse.  Rabbit hair is very light and gets easily sucked into the computer.  If you must use compressed air,  you can use ‘shop air’ at 100PSI that is often used to power air powered tool.  Just don’t go ape sh*t and blow off some of the capacitors.

After cleaning of the heat sink, the computer is running good as new.  Just a few hours away from getting away.  It should be fun, and I would love one complete night of sleep.

A night away.

This weekend we will be spending the first night away from the Glenn monster.  We are not going that far afield, just to Geneva/St. Charles area.  That way we will be close enough if we need to rush home, but far enough to relax for a night.

The record warmth here is just amazing.  It was 79°F yesterday and  78°F today!  Went for a walk at lunch and some flowers are starting to pop.  We are a few weeks behind Texas, but that is to be expected.

Today was the first time we had Glenn out in just a diaper and a onesie.  He was crawling like crazy all over the floor!  Tiffany took a nice video of him.  If I ever have the time, I will post it.

Sure hope it’s teething…

Poor Glenn (and us) have been very grumpy at night.  He woke up at 10:30 and didn’t go to sleep until after 12:15 A.M. There is a good chance he is teething for real now.  He is gnawing on teething rings like never before.  He uses to look at them as just toys, now he uses then as real teething devices.

Work has been keeping me busy.  Had a send off to Greg on Friday.  Nothing disastrous today without him.  Hopefully it will stay that way.

Happy 4th anniversary to Mr. Bush and his ill begotten war in Iraq.  Thanks for getting us $500,000,000,000
in debt, wasting 3,217 American lives, and probably more than 150,000 Iraqis.  Mission Accomplished!
