R.I.P. Belkin Router

Our old, 802.11b router died after I moved it from my desk to the basement. I put it there to get better reception, but it started acting ‘funny’. First, it would start dropping the WAN connection to the internet. Then, it wouldn’t assign IP addresses to any computer on the network. So, I assume the DHCP server went wonky in it as well. So, wired or unwired, it no longer worked as a router. Maybe the switch function still works, but it did its duty well. By the manufacture date, it looks like it was built in 2000. I remember buying it dirt cheap just when g was starting to come out. I think it cost, after rebate, something like $15.

So, now it is gone and we have wireless g in the house. N means Not a Standard Yet, so I decided against it. I really don’t see the need for greater that 54m/sec at this point.

Still feel like crap, doing other things distracts us from our misery. Nasty little cold/flu. It is the first time we have both been sick at the same time. Usually one or the other gets sick first, so at lease one person can take care of Glenn. Not this time. With a little store brand DayQuil, we at least can function. And N Y BigFuc’ingQ will help us get some sleep tonight.

Another week down

Glad another week is done.  I like my job, but there are times I wish I could stay home and be with Tiffany and Glenn.

Spent part of yesterday moving some furniture around.  It worked out pretty well, no major injuries to report.  Anyone who knows us won’t be surprised.  I used to not like change, but most of the time now it works out for the better.  Tiffany really needed a room to herself, and now she has one.  Which also means I have my own office now as well.  I just have to share it with the pets.  They don’t talk much, so it is ok.

Disappointing

Went out to get some computer gadget tonight. I used to like Circuit City, but now, they are a lobotomized version of Best Buy, except with worse selection and prices. Not one person asked me if I needed help, even though the store was empty.

Ended up going to Best Buy, where I expect to not get any help. They didn’t disappoint, but at least they had what I wanted in stock, at the price I wanted, and didn’t ask if I wanted a service plan at the checkout. I guess I put out an Übergeek vibe, so I usually don’t get asked anymore.

So, all is well, though driving in the snow always is unpleasant.

I wonder how Ann is doing?

Snowage

Got our first real snow of the year here. I actually looks pretty, as long as you are not out driving in it.

We bought a snow blower last year and have only used it once or twice. Looking at what is on the ground, I will be able to use it again.

While Tiffany was out doing some errands, I was sitting on the floor and Glenn came up to me. I was expecting a slap, but he hugged me instead! It was the biggest, longest baby hug I have every had. He hugged me a few times after that, then gently patted my head. Weird. He likes hugs from Daddy.  Tiffany also says he has been patting her head as well.

Been working on my watch blog. Some buying tips and a diagram of what the parts of a watch are. I’ll be adding some more reviews soon as well.

Looks like Evelyn is back from Galapagos. I am sure she has thousands of interesting photos. I am sure it is a nature lover’s dream there.

Glenn and Santa

Glenn saw Santa for the first time today. He squirmed and wanted to get off of his lap, that’s for sure.

Had a charming drive home in the freezing rain. So much fun.

The Chicago Tribune has run an article twice about virgin balls, where girls promise not to loose their vaginal virginity. Too bad they take it in their asses and mouths more than the average slut, as documented by several studies. They also have a higher rate of STD’s and teen pregnancy. Mission Accomplished!
