Birthdays

It was actually a pretty eventful day, yesterday.  Got to go out to a local thrift store and do some looking around.  I am amazed how much tossed off technology there is there.  Everything from 8-track cassettes (still in the wrapper!?!) to Pentium II computers, with DVD-ROM!   It is scary what people donate.  At least it is donated, and can be used again, and not fill up a landfill just yet.

Went to my parents’ birthday celebration yesterday (Mom’s real, Dad’s belated.)  It was a nice outing.  Got to see little Arianna and hold her the first time.  She was really light compared to Glenn.

I am used to picking up a squirming 25lb bag of potatoes.  It is nice to see most of the family together.  I hope everyone is here for the holidays.

Glenn has been growing quickly.  Lots of babbling, not much talking.  I have a feeling it is going to be like a floodgate opening up when he really starts to talk.

It’s a gorgeous day out, which is quite odd for late October.  The trees are still mostly green and it smells like spring outside.

With the new blog, embedding videos is much easier, so enjoy Glenn on his truck:

Baby Hugs

In happier news, Glenn gave me a real hug yesterday.  It as very cute and unexpected.

He climbed up on the couch, said Dada, and gave me a big hug!  He hugged a few times, about 20 seconds each time.  He has been giving Tiff hugs as well.  It’s the little things that make it worth it.

More annoying trends

I had a  few more annoying trends to complain about:

Home deodorizer refills.  It seems like they are coming out with a new Wisp/Poof/Squirter/Plug in every week.  When you find one you like, they discontinue the darn refills, resulting in more landfill.  I guess it is back to candles.  They work and don’t require proprietary refills to work.

The BIG trend.  Sunglasses are one example.  Guess what people, you look like a freaking bug when you wear glasses that cover more than half your face (see Paris Hilton.)  Wristwatches are another example.  It is starting to look like you are wearing a pocket watch strapped to your wrist. It is one thing to wear a cool vintage Vostok, Poljot, or Omega or Seiko Diver, it is another to wear a new ‘fashion’ watch the size of a salad plate.  I am sorry if I offend, but I have small wrists, and the trend towards bigger watches means I have to wear “boys” sized watches so I don’t look silly.  Smaller used to mean you were wearing a more expensive watch.  It is a lot harder to make a small watch than a big watch.  Now, the more bling the better.

Another weekend and the birth of a new computer

It’s finally the weekend.  Went out today to deliver Tiff’s Mom’s new computer.  It is her first computer.  Tiffany built it herself with just some supervision from me.   It works great and I am sure it will serve her mom for years to come.

What I really like about building a computer yourself is the fact you know what all the parts are and where they came from.  It also is a sense of accomplishment.  Anybody can go to Best Buy and pick up a new computer.  It is more statifying to know you built it yourself.

In other news, I can’t believe the drivers on I-294 are actually getting faster.  I was doing 7o to 75 and I was still getting passed like I was standing still.  The speed limit is 55.  I would guess people now assume they will never get pulled over.  I didn’t see any on the way up or down, about 45 miles of driving total.
