Vote in 2004

Less than a week left until the United States of America voters make a decision on our course to destruction or possibly a new vision.  I don’t know what 50% of America is smoking, but what the hell are you thinking to want to elect that moron?  (I don’t use the term re-elect, since Bush lost the last election.)  Can’t you remember that last 4 years?  2 wars?  3,000 dead citizens?  Over 1,100 soldiers dead?  They crappiest economy in decades?  The only president with a net job loss since Hoover?  Job creation that only results in low paying service jobs?

It makes me sick to think, oh, I will vote for him because he stays on course.  Well, you fricken lemmings, news flash, there is a f’ing cliff ahead.  I know Bush ignores the rest of the world, but nature will take her vengeance big time if we don’t stop screwing around.  We can’t win in Iraq.  I am sorry, we are GOING TO LOSE.  Period.  Get out now before we screw up more.  Our armies are at their limits now.  I don’t know how the numbers add up to avoid re-starting some sort of draft.  I can see it now.   In order to get a student loan, you need to sign up for 2 years.  I bet that is how it will happen.  That way it will exempt the rich kids (again) and really get the middle class involved in the war effort, instead of the lower class.

We need a new start, please, everyone go out and vote on November 2nd.  Send a clear message we want some change.  We need a new vision.  God help us.

Want to be prowd again.

I don’t know about you, but I want to be proud to be an American.  My family has been here for 15 (or more) generations, so I own no allegiance to any other country.  My relatives came over on the Mayflower, fought in the Revolutionary and Civil war.  My ancestors lived though the Great Chicago Fire.  I am an American through and through, but I am not proud to call myself that with the repressive government now in place.  I look at our unelected leader and am ashamed that is the face we present to the world.  I can’t stand that simpleton who can only see the world in black and white and absolutes.  He makes fun of Kerry for wanting to build an alliance with Europe.  Hers is a news flash, you moron, the Euro Dollar is worth more than ours now.  Europe has adapted to high tech manufacturing and services, and we haven’t.  We outsource and send jobs to the far east as fast as we can.  We need a regime change, and I hope of all hopes it happens this November.

Bush Kerry Debate

Watched the town hall debate last night and came to the following conclusions:
Bush’s whole camapign is based on more of the same, keep on the same course.  The problem is that the last 4 years have sucked ass.  I don’t know what Bush is talking about, the economy still sucks, we are still at war in a country we shouldn’t be in, and he has done nothing to slow global warming, and hundreds of other things.  These things matter to me, and they aren’t gettig fixed.  At least Kerry is a change.  More of the same will wreck this country.

More Boring Encoder Stuff

Did some more playing around, and I found I really hated the audio in the recommended encoding, so this is what I came up with:

mencoder dvd://1 -aid 128 -srate 48000 -vop scale=400:300 -o /home/david/movies/zaurus/Transformers_Z2.avi -oac mp3lame -lameopts preset=96:mode=0:vol=8 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vhq:vbitrate=175:autoaspect -ofps 15 -sws 2

The preset=96 gives you 96kbps audio MP3, and the mode=0 gives you true stereo.  The file size is not too bad, less than 200 meg, and it can stream over my wireless 802.11b network.  Time to get a bigger compact flash card.

Zaurus Movies

Well, I found a few things encoding for the Zaurus.

From other websites, the mencoder scripts have stripped out the stereo sound, dropped it to 24,000 Kbps, etc.  I found with the SL-6000 it really doesn’t matter what the audio is, it plays fine and sounds better, so, here is what I have been using to convert an 1.85:1 dvd to a Divx AVI:

mencoder dvd://1 -aid 128 -srate 44100 -vop scale=432:243 -o /home/david/movies/zaurus/Score_Z.avi -oac mp3lame -lameopts preset=15:mode=1 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vhq:vbitrate=200:autoaspect -ofps 15 -sws 2

dvd://1 <-DVD, Title 1 -aid 128 <- Define the audio track, 128 is usually English, 5.1 surround -srate 44100 <- Encode to CD quality MP3 -vop scale=432:243 <-Resize to fit the Zaurus screen, wierd number, but it works, use 400x300 for 4:3 aspect movies. -o /home/david/movies/zaurus/Score_Z.avi <-name of the file to record to -oac mp3lame -lameopts preset=15:mode=1 <-MP3 encoder options, stereo sound -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vhq:vbitrate=200:autoaspect <- Divx encoder, mpeg4, very high quality, 200kbs, auto aspect ratio.  Most websites recommend 150kbs, but the 200 looks better, and the Sl-6000 can handle it ofps 15 -sws 2 <- 15 frames per second, I tried 20, but too much frame dropping, and quality of the encoder. I use Kino2 or mplayer from the command line to play movies. Well, that's it for now, time to encode some more movies.
